Description
Are you looking for an engaging math activity for the end of the year? You've found it!!! Students enjoy competing in teams as they review 7th grade math concepts. This is a fun game to play as a full class.
This is a ready to play review game - the only prep you'll need to do is make copies of the student sheet (included) and have whiteboards ready for the students. Or, you could bypass making copies and just have the students use whiteboards. Or, you could just have them do it on their paper and bypass whiteboards - lots of options based on your preference! The game projects through PowerPoint. For the flowers to show instead of the point values be sure to view in presentation mode - then you're good to go!
Another Option
If you want the review, but not the game you could just delete the game slides and just have the students do the review problems without the competition.
Instructions & Answer Keys Included
Teacher instructions as well as student instructions are included. There is a printable student work page as well as the teacher answer key at the end of the resource.
The 16 problems in this game allow students to review:
•Adding and Dividing Positive/Negative Fractions (including mixed numbers)
•Solving 2-step Equations and Inequalities
•Supplementary & Complementary Angles (solving for x)
•Solving Proportions
•Percent Equations
•Paying a Tip
•Ordering Fractions and Decimals
•Simplifying Expressions by Distributing and Combining Like Terms
•Area of Composite Shapes (rectangle, triangle, circle)
The way scoring occurs will allow students to also practice
•Operations with Integers
Use for an end of 7th-grade or beginning of 8th-grade review.
How the game works:
•Students will do the problem on their papers and decide as a group their answer to write on their team whiteboard (if you don’t have student whiteboards you could just check from their papers)
•Once everyone has had an opportunity to write down an answer the teacher will check. (Click the PowerPoint to reveal the answer)
•Each group with the right answer (or maybe just the first few done (you decide) will ”pick their flower.” When the flower is selected the number of points they get will come up in place of the flower on the screen. The points they get can be positive or negative, or it could tell them to multiply or divide their current score by a number. Later in the game, it will throw in more twists like “switch scores with another team” or “give 10 of your points to another team.” etc. If they get “zapped” that means they go back to zero. The points behind the flowers are different each round. The points are also editable in case you'd like to change them.
•There are two ways to win – have the highest positive score or the lowest negative score.
Students love it and so do the teachers!!!
