Description

This Graphing Linear Equations Worksheet and 8th Grade Math Winter Coloring Activity includes 3 differentiated versions with different equation formats: slope-intercept form, standard form, OR point-slope form to meet your students' needs. Your students will be motivated to graph the linear equations so they can color the Winter themed coloring page.

Each of the 3 worksheet options includes 8 multiple choice problems, each with three answer choices to choose from:

  • Option 1: All 8 equations written in slope-intercept form, y=mx+b
  • Option 2: All 8 equations written in standard form, Ax+By=C
  • Option 3: All 8 equations written in point-slope form, y-y1=m(x-x1)

Students will plot the given equation and then select between 3 choices to identify which given ordered pair represents a point on the line they plotted.

The following are included:

  • slopes: positive and negative fractions or integers
  • y-intercepts: zero, positive, or negative integers
  • axes: have a scale of one, from -10 to 10

Students complete the color by code activity by using their answers as they solve each problem to color one of the included coloring sheets:

  • FALL - a picture of Fall inspired donuts and coffee, with the phrase "Pumpkin Everything" or "Pumpkin Spice."

OR

  • WINTER - a picture of an owl wearing a scarf in a snowglobe, with the phrase "Hello Winter" or "You are BRR-illiant."

An answer key is included for each version of the worksheet and the coloring sheet.

This was a great resource for me to provide extra practice for my students with graphing linear equations. I assigned the different form(s) to students depending on what I saw them struggling with individually, and it helped them to work through it and improve their skills. They also liked the coloring aspect as an extra "fun" touch.

Graph proportional relationships, interpreting the unit rate as the slope of the graph. Compare two different proportional relationships represented in different ways. For example, compare a distance-time graph to a distance-time equation to determine which of two moving objects has greater speed.
Use similar triangles to explain why the slope m is the same between any two distinct points on a non-vertical line in the coordinate plane; derive the equation 𝘺 = 𝘮𝘹 for a line through the origin and the equation 𝘺 = 𝘮𝘹 + 𝘣 for a line intercepting the vertical axis at 𝘣.
Interpret the equation 𝘺 = 𝘮𝘹 + 𝘣 as defining a linear function, whose graph is a straight line; give examples of functions that are not linear. For example, the function 𝘈 = 𝑠² giving the area of a square as a function of its side length is not linear because its graph contains the points (1,1), (2,4) and (3,9), which are not on a straight line.
