Description

A day off shouldn't be more work than being at work! These no prep, self-checking sub plans are a perfect solution any time of the year for your 8th grade math classes or towards the end of the year for 7th grade math.

These sub plans include two sets of easy to understand review notes and coordinated, engaging activities. While you're out, students will review their knowledge of evaluating expressions, combining like terms and the distributive problerty, try a few practice problems (with answers provided for self-checking) and practice the skill with an activity. The evaluating expressions practice a build-a-monster activity that has them complete 6 problems and draw features on a monster outline based on their answers. The simplifying expressions activity is a riddle worksheet, in which students complete 8 problems in order to complete a riddle/joke.

Answer keys are included so there's no prep other than copying! Coloring supplies are not required but recommended to keep fast workers busy and for more adorable end products!

This was a great no prep resource to leave for emergency sub plans. It was very easy to pick and choose the items I wished to leave in case of an emergency. The work was difficult enough that it will take time to complete, but in a less stressful than straight forward, boring worksheets, to keep them engaged.

My students loved using this resource for their morning work! They were engaged in the resource and had no trouble getting started. It didn't take much time to prepare this resource, so it was easy for me to use in a time crunch. I adapted it a little bit for my emerging bilingual students and had them skip some of the more challenging questions.
