Description

Looking for a partner or triples activity that is designed to get students teaching each other about 8th grade math concepts while meeting the needs of multiple levels of learners in your classroom? These differentiated, NO PREP 8th Grade Math Partner Practices are what you need!

In these 11 Partner Activities, students are given different problems and work together to discuss the problem solving process before working independently to find the solution. How I use this Resource in My Classroom:
Option 1: Circular Speed Dating
Have students arrange desks into two circles, inner and outer. Students in the outer circle will all have FORM A, Students on the inside will have FORM B or FORM C. All students start with problem 1 and compare problems, then discuss the process for solving. Students will then solve their respective problems independently. When they are both done, students will compare answers. If the problems have been solved correctly, students will have the same answer. To begin problem 2, have students in the outer circle rotate one desk to their left and repeat the process.

Option 2: Find Someone Who
To begin, set a timer for a designated amount of work time (20 min). Have students pair up with a student who has a different form. Partners can begin with any problem that neither of them have completed. Students should compare problems, then discuss the process for solving. Students will then solve their respective problems independently. When they are both done, students will compare answers. If the problems have been solved correctly, students will have the same answer. To begin the next round, students move around the room to find a different partner with a form that is different than theirs, then repeat the process, selecting a problem that neither has completed.

Option 3: Partner Quiz
Partner Quiz. Have students pair up a partner of their choice who has a different version of the form. You can intentionally plan ahead of time who will have each version to avoid any pairings that will not work well, while still allowing students to have choice. Set expectations for each student showing work and how students will be scored individually. Point out to students that the benefit of a partner quiz is the self-checking nature and ability to problems solve with a partner. Encourage students to keep working until they have the same solution for each problem.
