Description

This activity has been aligned with the Common Core. In this "error analysis" activity students will need to examine 8 "volume" questions and work to determine if errors were made. They must describe each error with complete sentences, using vocabulary discussed in class. Finally, the student must redo the incorrect questions by fixing the work and coming up with the correct answers. Using "error analysis" activities often leads to richer discussions with deeper thinking and understanding of the material. Students who can complete these activities show a true mastery of the topic. This resource can be used for homework, independent classwork, math centers, test prep, RTI, or even as a means of assessment.

I was looking for something for my students to use for error analysis and to show them why showing some work is important. This was an excellent recourse.

My students appreciated the different approach to calculating the volumes of geometric figures by using this error analysis. They were more eager than I even expected to find the mistakes! This was a great way to mix up the application of volume and to keep my students motivated to continue working hard.

I used this resource with my students towards the end of our volume lesson. It really helped me gauge if my students understood the formula and what I needed to review before moving on to the next topic. Thank you for a great resource.

My students really engaged with this activity. I did end up having to edit parts of it to align better with the Texas Teks and how I usually teach the process, but I used about 80% of the questions and they were very useful.
