Description
8th Grade Math Warm-Up Program
About:
This set of warm-up questions includes 120 day’s worth of bell-ringer/catalyst/do-now/warm-up questions for 8th grade students. Two versions are included; one version is in power-point form, and can be projected onto a white board, smart board or promethean board, and the other is in hand-out version where each student would get their own printed warm-up each day. The power-point is editable. Each day’s warm-up also includes a positive motivational quote to inspire students. The questions are aligned to 8th grade math standards, but many of the questions will require students to think about the topics covered in 8th grade on a deeper level that is required from the standards.
Why?
-Warm-ups set the tone for a productive class
- Warm-ups provide a calming and systematic start to each class
- Warm-ups give the teacher the opportunity to quickly pre=teach or review important concepts
- Warm-ups create multiple opportunities for students to learn each concept
- Warm-ups will increase student performance on mathematical tasks and tests
This set of warm-up questions is intended to increase the rigor in your classroom. The questions range in difficulty, but many will require students to apply their knowledge, think-critically about what they’ve learned, and to use their reasoning skills to create a suitable solution.
How to use:
There is no right or wrong way to use this set of warm-ups. Students will need paper to work out their solutions, so having a notebook that they bring each day to do this work in would be helpful.
You can use the questions as warm-ups that align to the unit you are currently teaching, or you can use the questions as a spiraled review to ensure students retain what they learn from one unit to the next.
You can differentiate your teaching by giving different levels of questions to different students. I would recommend using this with students that are at or above grade-level. It is rigorous, and will push students' thinking to the next level, but may be too difficult for students that struggle with math.
If more than one teacher will be using this set of warm-up questions, please buy additional licenses. I offer them at a very low cost.
Thanks for the download! Please follow me and leave a review!
