Description

This two-day lesson is aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills standards for Grade 3 and combines both coding and content to reinforce the ideas of fractions, perimeter, and linear measurement. The lesson is written to be used with Wonder Workshop's Dash robot though a robot is not required to complete the math tasks. The tasks are scaffolded to build a student’s understanding of the mathematical concepts throughout the lesson’s progression. From how to use a ruler to calculating a portion of the perimeter, there are numerous teaching opportunities to clarify student misconceptions throughout this lesson. I added slide notes for each slide and shared where my students needed extra support. A Math Lab Sheet is included for students to complete as they work through the tasks. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions. I would be happy to Skype or answer questions via instant messaging prior to you implementing this lesson with students. My contact info is included in the lesson. Prior understanding of coding is not required. I hope you and your students enjoy it as much as we did!

Yay! I am so glad you liked it. My favorite part was seeing their mental wheels spinning as they worked through the lab. Thanks for sharing!
