Description

S.T.E.M. activities may seem daunting when teaching young children. This is a STEM activity that I created for my students to do in September around Johnny Appleseed's birthday when we are having Apple Day. I like to include literature, reading, and writing into my STEM activity so that I can incorporate it into my reading block if needed so I would read a children's biography of Johnny Appleseed to my students first. There is so much that has to be taught, and so little time!

Johnny Appleseed walked until he reached a river. He wants to cross the river to plant apple seeds on the other side. He doesn’t want to build a bridge and the river is too wide for him to swim across. Can you build a way for Johnny Appleseed to cross a river using popsicle sticks and yarn?

Please download my free preview as it contains the unit in its entirety (minus the black-out lines). The only addition are 7 pages of my students' models for you to see.
