Description

This worksheet is a computer-free, visual guide to teach simple distribution for pre-algebra and algebra students with differentiated needs. It relies on teacher guidance to choose a three-element expression in the format r(y+b), to provide voiceover and prompting, and to provide other supports such as progressive visual focus.

Teachers can assign the same expression to all students or to different teams of students to foster collaborative learning. Later, teachers can choose different expressions for each student as they gain confidence and ability to behaviorally guide them away from collaboration and into independence.

Use parentheses, brackets, or braces in numerical expressions, and evaluate expressions with these symbols.
Write simple expressions that record calculations with numbers, and interpret numerical expressions without evaluating them. For example, express the calculation “add 8 and 7, then multiply by 2” as 2 × (8 + 7). Recognize that 3 × (18932 + 921) is three times as large as 18932 + 921, without having to calculate the indicated sum or product.
Write, read, and evaluate expressions in which letters stand for numbers.
