TYPES OF PROBLEMS:

In this set of AP Statistics notes, students will learn to:

  • Define and identify the purpose of a confidence interval, specifically a 1-Proportion Z-Interval.
  • Determine how the 68-95-99.7 Rule of Normal Models applies to confidence intervals and their certainty and precision.
  • Define and calculate the point estimate (observed value, p-hat), critical value z* (test statistic) using invNorm, standard error, and margin of error for confidence intervals of one proportion.
  • Check the conditions to use the Normal model for a problem involving a sampling distribution of sample proportions: (IRTS) independent samples, random sampling, the 10% rule (sample size n is less than 10% of the population size), and the success/failure condition (at least 10 successes n and 10 failures n).
  • Calculate a 1-Proportion Z-Interval using the confidence interval formula: CI = p-hat +or- (z*)(SE).
  • Interpret the confidence interval and confidence level using templates.
