Description
This is an assignment I give my future APES students to do over the summer, and I make it due the first week of class. It includes 6 parts, and is meant to be done a little at a time over the summer (although many do it the last week, am I right? lol). The 6 parts of the assignment are listed below, and are designed to give them a flavor of what we'll be doing in the course and a chance to get thinking about concepts related to APES. In this file I've also included the matching quiz I give based on the prerequisite part of the assignment, which includes basic vocabulary from all science disciplines as well as chemical formula names. There are 4 versions of this quiz included, as well as answer keys, to reduce cheating and for students to retake a different version if they don't do well the first time. These are a fully editable MSWord files, so you can personalize them to your tastes, change or delete point values, etc.
The 6 parts of the summer assignment include:
PART 1. Connect with Your Teacher (10 points, estimated time: 10 minutes)
PART 2. Explore the Natural World (30 points, estimated time: 30 minutes or more)
PART 3. Analyze a Documentary (25 points, estimated time: 90 minutes)
PART 4. Examine Current Events (20 points, estimated time: 30 minutes)
PART 5. Take Notes from Video Lessons (45 points, estimated time: 60-90 minutes)
PART 6. Review Prerequisites & Quiz (40 points total, estimated time: 30-60 minutes)
