The only homework I give my APUSH students is this packet of open-ended questions organized by the period topics. When I began using these versions, I saw an increase in 3s, 4s, and 5s and a decrease in 1s. I fully believe that AP courses are just as much about learning to be a college level student and developing skills like time management as they are about the scores and college credit.

How I use this:

- Students can complete using resources from class, the textbook, digital sources shared by me, and/or any third-party test prep resources (such as AP Exam prep books)

- Students have a calendar with guidelines for "by this date, be done with this page" to encourage working consistently rather than pulling an all-nighter

- For every section that a student turns in on that guideline due date, they earn a bonus point on the period exam (they submit photos via digital platform and I keep a spreadsheet of who finished which topics on time)

- Students cannot do test corrections until they have turned in the packet at least halfway completed

- the entire packet itself is a small grade
