Description
This student-driven performance review activity covers APUSH Period 2, Objective 2.2 — European colonization of North America. Students read detailed informational entries on Spanish, English, French, and Dutch colonization, then rate each nation across five evidence-based categories (economic success, indigenous relations, settlement durability, governance, and adaptability), engage a paired secondary source historian's argument for each nation, and write a final comparative essay defending which colonial power performed best overall. A peer review rubric is included, making this a complete, no-prep, AP-ready lesson.
Note: All materials are original and catered specifically to the College Board's Unit Guide Learning Objectives and modeled after the College Board AP® Test format and difficulty.
