Focused Note-Taking PowerPoint | 3-Day Interactive Lesson with Cookie Activity

Make focused note-taking sweet and engaging with this 3-day interactive PowerPoint that walks students through each step of the Focused Note-Taking process using a fun, real-world example — how to make snickerdoodle cookies!

This lesson is perfect for AVID, study skills, or organization units, helping students understand how to take, process, and apply detailed notes in a hands-on and memorable way.

Overview of the 3-Day Lesson:

Day 1 – Taking Notes:

Students watch a short video on how to make snickerdoodle cookies and practice taking detailed, step-by-step notes. The day ends with a quick class share-out and discussion about what makes notes effective.

Day 2 – Processing & Connecting Thinking:

Students review the processing phase of Focused Note-Taking, starting with a warm-up question, then working with partners to refine and add to their notes. They’ll re-watch the video, transfer their notes to a flow chart, and complete an optional gallery walk and exit ticket.

Day 3 – Applying Learning:

Students apply what they’ve learned by creating their own cookie recipe, using a new note format on a recipe card to show understanding of the FNT process in a creative way.

Perfect for:

  • AVID or College & Career Readiness classes
  • Study skills or organization units
  • Interactive note-taking lessons
  • Hands-on learning with real-world application

This lesson combines structure, collaboration, and creativity — making Focused Note-Taking both practical and fun for your students!
