Description

For all teachers - this absent work system is a life saver!

Here's how my absent system worked:

1. I used a large manila envelope, and stuck this sheet to it, then laminated them. I always had about 10 on hand.

2. As worksheets and assignments were handed out in class, I would put the worksheets/activities on the absentee's desk. As the day continued, I would write with a vis a vis marker or an expo pen all the assignments I wanted the student to complete. (Consider this: if it's busy work or an activity to buy time, don't assign it)

3. At the end of the day, I would put all the assignments I felt the student should make up into that folder. I would continue this for how long they were out.

4. Students had ONE WEEK to make up all the work they missed, whether they miss 1 day, or 2 weeks. They had ONE WEEK to turn in all of that work, INSIDE the envelope.

5. Parents knew exactly what was expected to get done.

6. I would write when make up tests would be, etc.

7. You decide how you grade it, if you grade it, etc. But this way you cut down the unnecessary stuff, keep it all in one place, and communicate your expectations. Best of all - you know it's absent work in that envelope when it makes its way to your inbox.
