Description

These engaging Absolute Value Task Cards will ensure your students have a strong foundation and master this concept. Students will reason through real-life situations that build confidence and number sense. This is perfect for classrooms and homeschool learning.

These task cards will solidify your students’ understanding of absolute value through interesting and engaging questions. The real-world questions within these cards are relatable to students and will build number sense. There are a variety of graphs, tables, and horizontal and vertical number lines that students will interpret and fill out to answer questions on their recording sheet.

Students will find the absolute value, compare and order integers and absolute value, graph absolute value and on a number line, complete horizontal and vertical number lines, complete charts and tables, and reason the importance of zero through real-world questions.

The cards are scaffolded and get progressively harder as the card number increases, but students can answer the cards in any order. This set is designed to have cards placed throughout the room, have students answer a card at a time, and move to the next question. They could also be used in a more structured whole-class way, such as a game of Scoot or going through one question at a time projected on the screen. Other ideas for use are for bell work, centers, partner work, fast finishers, or exit tickets.

The students’ integer task card recording sheet is very organized and structured to promote student success. Blank number lines, graphs, charts, and other helpful images are provided to save students’ time. This allows them to focus their efforts on working through the desired content instead of spending time figuring out how to draw a chart. This is also helpful for students of all ability levels to find success. Student responses will inform you about areas students may be struggling with and need additional support.

Included in this resource is an editable digital version of the task cards. The Google Slides presentation can either be displayed whole group up on the screen or shared with students to have on their individual computers. The slideshow is set up so that card one is displayed on the screen, and the next slide has the answer to card one once you click an extra time. Then card two is on the next slide with the answer to card two on the following slide. This continues through all 24 task cards. Having the answer after each slide allows for students to have immediate feedback on their answer. The slideshow can be edited if you would like the slides arranged in a different order or format to meet your needs.

These cards are essential for every 6th grade student. They will:

  • Help students strengthen their understanding of absolute value,
  • Show students how absolute value is used in their real lives
  • Engage students through fun questions instead of filling out another worksheet.
  • Save you time with easy-to-prep cards. Just print, cut, and go!
  • Save your students time with the structured response sheet to record their answers.

Included in this set of task cards are:

  • 24 absolute value task card problems, many of which are real-world word problems
  • Cards in color or black and white for your convenience
  • Structured student response answer sheet
  • Answer Key that could be used by teachers or students
  • Digital version of the Task Cards

Absolute Value Task Cards are a low-prep (print, cut & go) educational resource that will build confidence and real-world problem-solving skills while keeping students engaged.
