Description
How to use this: There are 40 task cards with graphs of absolute values in this worksheet. I strongly recommend laminating the printed pages before cutting them out first, so they can be used time and again. Answers are provided at the end of the task cards.
40 may seem like a lot of task cards, but students often find this topic confusing and practice makes perfect. Given that there are 40 cards, stations can be set up to allow the students to work in groups. There can be 10 stations of 4, or 5 stations of 8 etc.
Another advantage of these cards is that there are two versions of the cards – one where the students must draw the graphs (on a blank graph template) from the equation given. There is also a version where the graph is given, and the students must determine the equation of this graph.
With two different versions, half of each version can be given to the students to work on. I sometimes allow students in groups of 2 or 4 to do the same questions, but on both versions. This is a simple and hassle – free way for the students to self-check their work in their groups. This leaves more time and freedom for the teacher to offer much needed individual help where needed.
