Description
Are you in need of a daily lesson and do not have time to plan? My specialty is creating a daily math lesson that is very visual and engaging for students, with very little prep by the teacher. The prep needed for this lesson is displayed in the thumbnail. As a classroom teacher, I love the already made lessons; I only need to prepare the necessary materials.
This lesson follows the gradual release method of instruction and focuses on learning about adding & subtracting mixed numbers by using the algorithm and checking the answer by drawing a fraction model. This lesson does not have subtraction with borrowing. It meets the the NYS Next Generation Math Standard 4.NF.3c
This lesson:
- Can be displayed on a smartboard for whole group instruction or individual computer for small group instruction.
- Moves the student from concrete thinking to abstract.
- Word Problems
- Solving using the algorithm and checking by drawing a fraction model.
- The lesson can be modified by pre-drawing the fraction models so the students only have to add parts or draw Xs to subtract.
- The students reflect on what they are good at, and not good at, yet.
- Students write on a math board with a dry erase marker.
- The teacher is freed up to walk around the room assessing & remediating as necessary.
- Includes visuals and step-by-step instructions to help aid in comprehension.
- Includes a review of vocabulary.
- Includes 1 modeled example, 5 practice problems, and 1 challenge problem
- The final pages include classwork, exit ticket, and answer keys to print for individual assessment.
This product is a 121 page Google Slides Presentation.
