Description
Engage your students with scaffolded close reading word problem tasks, keyword problems, and adding fractions with like denominators, which are designed to support the development of conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and practice of addition of fractions. Each problem is created in a graphic organizer that includes the R-CUBES or CUBES strategy and five close reading steps that gradually support students in analyzing math word problems.
There are 25 pages each with a word problem aligned with CCSS:
Adding and subtracting fractions and adding and subtracting mixed numbers.
Word Problems Includes:
- Version 1: Word problem of the day - No answer for the problem provided
- Version 2: Word problem of the day - Answer provided - With this method, the compelling math work is not about finding the answer, but rather proving the answer in a variety of ways (diagrams, number models, written explanation, etc.) Each problem has the answer already waiting for the student to show the entire process. The teacher just needs to provide feedback on the process.
