Description

Keep your students engaged with these fun and engaging activities. This resource bundles 3 different activities that all address adding integers and adding integers from real-world problems to provide differentiated tasks and/or student choice! This product includes a fun self-checking 7th grade math activity! Students solve problems by adding integers. When entering their answer in the digital activity, if the answer is correct, the box will turn green. If the answer is incorrect, the box will turn red. Encourage students to go back and check their work/redo their work if the box turns red. This product also includes a card sort in which students have to determine if a numerical expression represents a given real-world situation. If it does, students find the sum. If it does not, students rewrite the expression and solve by finding the sum. The last activity included is an error analysis to provide an opportunity for students to develop and demonstrate a deeper understanding of adding integers.

This product includes:

  • Activity 1: Self-Check Google Sheet
    • Workspace for students
    • Answer Key
  • Activity 2: True/False Card Sort
    • Printable activity
    • Digital activity for Google Slides
    • Answer Keys
  • Activity 3: Error Analysis
    • 6 Task Cards (can be printed or assigned digitally)
    • Student Recording Sheet
    • Answer Key

This activity aligns well with:

CCSS:

  • 7.NS.1: Apply and extend previous understandings of addition and subtraction to add and subtract rational numbers; represent addition and subtraction on a horizontal or vertical number line
  • 7.NS.1.b: Understand p + q as the number located a distance |q| from p, in the positive or negative direction depending on whether q is positive or negative. Show that a number and its opposite have a sum of 0 (are additive inverses). Interpret sums of rational numbers by describing real-world contexts.

NGLS:

  • NY-7.NS.1: Apply and extend previous understandings of addition and subtraction to add and subtract rational numbers. Represent addition and subtraction on a horizontal or vertical number line.
  • NY-7.NS.1.b: Understand p + q as the number located a distance |q| from p, in the positive or negative direction depending on whether q is positive or negative. Show that a number and its opposite have a sum of 0 (are additive inverses). Interpret sums of rational numbers by describing real-world contexts.
