Description

These Adding Integers Task Cards were designed to introduce students to the concept of adding integers. I created these cards to use with a student that I currently tutor to help increase her confidence and understanding of this concept.

These set of cards includes:

  • 28 Task Cards with a Horizontal Number Line
  • 28 Task Cards with a Vertical Number Line
  • An Adding Integer Matching Game
  • 32 Task Cards without Number Lines
  • Recording Sheets
  • Answer Sheets

The first 2 sections include a number line to help build the students’ conceptual understanding and the last set just include the problem to get students to do more abstract thinking.

I find that task cards seem less intimidating to students and they are more willing to try them because they see them as fun. I also love to play the game SCOOT with my students as a fun review.

I also created two sheets for students to show their work. There is a black and white version that you can print for students to write on. There is also a color version that you can print out and laminate for students to use at a center. Students can write on the laminated copy with a dry erase marker and the sheets can be used again and again. Students could also record the answers in a notebook to be checked later.

I hope you find this product useful!

Wow, this is exactly what I was looking for! I checked out a lot of other integer task cards for addition on TPT and yours are perfect for my special education middle school students. They really need to use a number line. Your set is differentiated to work for ALL of my students. Thank you :)

Thank you so much for your awesome feedback! I created these for one of my students that I tutor and they worked wonders for her! I want to continue to make middle school math products so if you have any ideas please pass them along! I am glad that these will work for your students!

Understand that positive and negative numbers are used together to describe quantities having opposite directions or values (e.g., temperature above/below zero, elevation above/below sea level, credits/debits, positive/negative electric charge); use positive and negative numbers to represent quantities in real-world contexts, explaining the meaning of 0 in each situation.
Recognize opposite signs of numbers as indicating locations on opposite sides of 0 on the number line; recognize that the opposite of the opposite of a number is the number itself, e.g., -(-3) = 3, and that 0 is its own opposite.
