"I used this with my first graders and they loved making their snowmen! I like how this can be used with different grade levels as well, just in case I get moved grade levels in the future"

Description

Help your students practice adding three addends with this snowman craftivity! You have a choice of giving them a set of buttons with numbers ready to add, or a set of blank buttons. If using the blank buttons, students may roll a die to fill in the numbers on the buttons, and then add to find the sum. This craftivity provides options for differentiation: adding three numbers with single digits, and two digits, with and without regrouping.

Four practice sheets are also included, and can be used before or after the craftivity. One sheet gives the students the opportunity to roll a die and write in the addends, creating their own equation. The other three sheets have the numbers included. One has single digit numbers, and the other two have 2 digit numbers, one with regrouping, and one without regrouping.

I hope you enjoy this craftivity as much as my students and I did! Please email me if you have any questions, and don’t forget to leave feedback for TpT credits!

My students loved doing this fun craft to help reinforce their understanding of adding 3 numbers. I also love that they had to write the addition sentence vertically to help with this skill too.

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Solve word problems that call for addition of three whole numbers whose sum is less than or equal to 20, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).
Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
