This set of addition fact strategy assessments does much more than typical timed math fact tests. Students master the simplest strategies (like +0) and progress to more difficult strategies (like make a 10). Be sure to download the free recording sheets to document student progress.
Students who are working below level can complete the assessments with a sum less than 10. Students above level can try to complete the same strategy their peers are on, but by finding the missing addend.
Common Core State Standard
OA.B.2 Fluently add and subtract within 20 using mental strategies. By the end of Grade 2, know from memory all sums of two one-digit numbers.
