Description

ADDITION STRATEGIES:
Students practice choosing addition strategies to sort addition flash cards according to the strategy used to determine the sum. Addition strategies included are counting on, doubles, near doubles, and making tens.

Includes a set of addition flashcards through 12s, 4 addition strategy sorting cards, 4 addition strategy posters, and recording sheets in color and gray scale.

Finding the solution to each addition problem may not be the primary goal of this activity.

Determining which addition strategy best fits the problem is an important skill to learn without being encumbered with the actual computation. Once this skill is mastered, computation can also be completed.
