Looking for an interactive notebook for 2nd grade math addition and subtraction strategies? This set of second grade math interactive notebook pages includes a page or more for each Grade 2 Common Core Operations and Algebraic Thinking Math Standard, as well as some additional math skills I covered with my own second grade students.

Interactive notebook activities are included for the following skills:

  • Additive Identity Property of Zero
  • Commutative Property
  • Fact Families
  • The Meaning of the Equal Sign
  • Doubles Facts
  • Doubles Related Facts
  • Combinations for Ten
  • Subtraction Strategies
  • Odd or Even Objects
  • Odd or Even Numbers
  • Arrays (2 options)
  • Types of Word Problems (2 options)

These standard-focused pages feature simple designs with just a handful of pieces to cut and paste per page.

There are many ways to use interactive notebooks to support learning. In my own classroom, I have used these pages as whole group note-taking, for small group instruction, as partner work, and as independent work. At times, I have used them as a class exit slip to check understanding or a math center activity to allow for practice and to add additional information to my students’ notes. Students’ notebooks become a great reference tool they take ownership of and go back to throughout the year. Whenever we are reviewing a skill in my classroom, you are sure to see notebooks out on desks or center tables.
