Description
Do you want find a fun and an interactive way to teach your students addition and subtraction using a number line? The animated frog in this PowerPoint will get and keep your kids attention while they learn how to add and subtract using a numberline.
This PowerPoint will teach your students how to:
--Understand that numbers will get bigger when you add and smaller when you subtract
--Add and subtract using the number line
--Assess a problem and learn how to start with the higher number
--Move along the number line – “hopping” to the next/last number
--Understand that adding/subtracting “0” does not change the answer
--Practice what they have learned by completing worksheets, playing the “Lily Pad” Game, the Number Lline Cover-up Game and flashcards
In addition to the PowerPoints here are additional supplimental materials that are included:
**Number Lines – copy, laminate and use with practice sheets
**Finger Puppets– copy, cut-out, tape around your finger and have fun “hopping” while you add and subtract
**Lily Pad Game (add. or sub.)– use 2 number or dot dice. Roll the dice and solve the problem. Move 2 spaces ahead if you get it correct and move 1 space back if you answer incorrectly. Watch out for the tricky lily pads!
**Cover –Up Game (add. and/or sub.)– one student sits on each side of the game board. You can play this game only subtraction, only addition or both. Pick a card, use the number line to solve the problem and cover up the number on your side. First one to cover up the numbers on their side wins!
***Flashcards– copy, laminate and use with cover-up game or just for student practice. Put frog signs on the back of each card if you wish!
***Practice sheets – Addition, subtraction and mixed practice sheet
