Using adjectives to describe the who (noun)
Using adverbs to describe the what (verb)
With five structured lessons, this no-prep resource provides scaffolded instruction, modeled examples, and repeated writing practice using descriptive language.
This lesson follows Lesson 1: Add a Who + What, but can be taught independently as a stand-alone sentence expansion unit.
How This Lesson Works
- Lesson 1: Introduce describing the who using adjectives. Students practice identifying and applying precise descriptive words.
- Lesson 2: Reinforce adjective use through scaffolded picture prompts and sentence stems.
- Lesson 3: Introduce how to describe the what (verb) using adverbs. Students explore how adverbs affect tone, pacing, and clarity.
- Lesson 4: Students practice adding both adjectives and adverbs to complete more detailed sentences.
- Lesson 5: Students respond to a final picture prompt and write a sentence using both types of description. The worksheet includes space for Teacher Feedback and self-checking.
