Description
This product is perfect for students in need of a quick review of solving linear equations!
If your students are like mine, when taking notes it can be a struggle to get them to focus deeply on the content at hand rather than simply copying every word at breakneck speed. Guided Notes can be the perfect bridge in-between, allowing students to have complete notes to use as a resource later on while still remaining focused and engaged during the lesson.
What Skills are Covered?
- Solving one-step equations
- Solving two-step equations
- Solving equations with distribution
- Solving linear equations with variables on both sides
Suggestions for Implementations
- Use during review for a cumulative final or exam!
- Have students complete the "warm-up" section alone or with a partner/small group then poll the class to find a consensus on whether each equation was true or false. Pick students at random to explain their choice - this can reveal misconceptions and lead to deeper understanding.
- When filling out the blanks with students, ask students to hypothesize what words they think may fill the blank - for students with prior exposure who are already close to mastery, this helps keep engagement up for students who may become bored otherwise.
- For the examples at the bottom of the notes, allow students think time to begin solving on their own. Then, pick students at random to provide the next step for solving each equation as you model the process to the class.
Please note that these guided notes are intended for students with prior exposure to solving linear equations but who need additional help with retention/mastery of these concepts. As such, they may not be appropriate for a student just beginning to learn these concepts.
