Q: What is a codeword search?

A: Pupils answer the questions and convert each of their answers into codewords which need to be found in the word search grid. If a pupil can't match their answer to a codeword then they know they have made a mistake on that question. To stop pupils from cheating some codewords are deliberately hidden in the word search but do not need to be found. Some codewords have very similar answers to one another, so pupils must check their answers carefully!

Each of the two codeword searches contains 12 problems on solving one step equations. Task (E) covers solving one step equations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and has no negative answers. Task (F) is the same but does contain negative answers. All answers to the questions are included, along with the location of all the codewords that need to be found in the word searches. Please see the preview images for further details.
