A discovery approach to learning new information better facilitates memory retention. Over a two-day period, students will learn about algebraic properties through a teacher-guided activity where students will make conclusions based on sets of simple problems being solved. These “universal truths” have a property name. The five algebraic properties being studied are Commutative, Associative, Identity, Multiplicative Property of Zero, and Distributive. All this information will be recorded in a layered-book foldable that can be kept in an interactive notebook. This foldable is a wonderful resource for students to refer to all year long.
