Description
Teach basic map skills through unplugged coding activities! Students will act as the 'programmer' and 'robot,' learning foundational coding commands while exploring map skills interactively and concretely. This hands-on activity builds confidence in computer science concepts and provides a strong foundation for future plugged coding experiences. Perfect for integrating STEM and geography in a fun and engaging way!
How to Play:
1. Pick two students.
- One will be the programmer (the person who commands the robot and lays the command cards on the mat).
- One will be the robot (the person placed on the grid, following the directions of the programmer - this is my favorite part, watching them add the robot moves (-:).
- I also purchased a robot costume to wear. It's super cute!!
2. I continue to have different students, both programmers and robots.
Ideas for use:
Whole Group
Small-Group
Paired Programming
Center Work
Resource includes:
5 Follow the Code
5 Write the Code
16 Large Basic Map Skills Images
