  • Clear, detailed instruction sheet for introducing the game.
  • 6 different game mats for small groups or centre rotations.
  • Matching picture and letter cards.
  • Follow-up worksheet to extend learning after gameplay.
  • Cover page for organising cards in pockets, pouches, or tubs.

  • Simple, low-prep setup that’s easy to introduce and manage.
  • Engaging, game-based format that motivates early readers.
  • Flexible enough for partner play, small groups, or independent work.
  • Supports early literacy skills in a playful, stress-free way.

Skills students will practise:

  • Identifying uppercase and lowercase letters.
  • Developing visual discrimination and visual scanning skills.
  • Matching pictures to letters and recognising visual similarities and differences.
  • Taking turns and following simple game rules in a small group setting.

Ideas for using this resource:

  • Set it up as a literacy centre during your phonics or alphabet rotations.
  • Use the follow-up worksheet as a quick formative check after gameplay.
  • Model how to scan the mat before placing cards to build visual tracking strategies.

This is a great resource for those students who are very low, and they get easily frustrated when the work is difficult. There is very low demand, and the graphics are great.

This matching is so engaging! I added my cards to a sensory bin and the students had to pull the cards from the sensory bin and match up the letter card to the sheet on the table, Then they had to identify the letter and the sound of the letters fun!!!
