Alternative Performance Assignment
Share

Description

In all the years I have taught, there has never been a performance where everyone was present. Regardless of the reason, I give all students an alternative way to make up the points. Whereas it is impossible to recreate a performance, this assignment touches on other standards that we don't spend a ton of time on throughout the concert season and do require students to put in work they would have been doing while at a performance.

This assignment has worked well for me for a number of reasons. It can be used multiple times for a single student. It is difficult to plagiarize. It's not so much work that a student feels punished, but it is enough work to dissuade students from skipping a performance. It keeps me having to have to create new make-up assignments every time a student misses.

Directions: Students are given a list of various projects. Students choose which projects to complete that add up to the number of points they are missing.

50pt Projects Include:

  • Composer Interview
  • Music Teacher for a Day
  • Music Critic
  • Concert Ad
  • Music Career Job Posting
  • Choir Brochure

Highly recommend! Not only did it give the students choices, it allowed the students to still be creative.
