Description

If you struggled to keep up with Amplify Science’s Word Walls, then this is the product for you! I use Amplify Science to teach 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science. I found it impossible to manage 4 different word walls, so I came up with this system instead. At the beginning of each unit, I pass out the “Key Concepts Notes” page and students put it in the brads of their folder. I have students put a sticky note on the “Key Concepts & Glossary” page we are currently working on so they can always find it quickly.

Throughout my digital presentations, I have replaced Amplify's key concepts slides with screenshots of the matching section from my Key Concepts Notes. During whole class lessons students pull out their folders when they see a Key Concepts Notes slide appear. I do not show the blue words on the slides right away because I want student first to discuss what word should go in the blank. Then I animate the blue words so they appear and students write it down on the paper version of their Key Concepts Notes.  Here is a short tutorial video on how I embed the Key Concept Notes screenshots into my presentations.

This product is not intended to be a worksheet that is completed at the end of each chapter or unit. I created it as a quick way for students to write down the key concepts we were learning as we completed each lesson so they could easily refer to it when working on assignments and written arguments.

Your PDF download includes:

  • printable glossary that takes up one page (not editable)
  • key concepts page with blanks for the students to fill in (not editable)
  • key concepts page with blanks already filled in (not editable)
  • a link to a semi-editable Google Slides and a Microsoft PowerPoint that contains the Key Concepts Notes. These slides can be copied and pasted into the Amplify presentation so students will have a visual to use during class while taking notes. Text boxes with the words that go in the blanks are included on each slide so that teachers can delete or animate them as needed.

This product will not be useful to you unless your school uses the Amplify Science curriculum. For more information about Amplify, visit their website or watch a short youtube video about their program.

This is a great one page (front and back) study guide for my students. It helped to hold them accountable for documenting the key ideas for the unit.
