Description
13 pages including a scripted lesson plan and interactive class activities and demonstrations to introduce students to the concepts of random number selection and probability. Through several class activities, they will learn that people are not particularly good at picking random numbers while a fair die is. They will also see some common biases people have by trying to predict the outcome of a coin toss. Students will learn the basics of calculating simple probability and how to display data on a bar graph. Through interactive activities, students will try to determine the color distribution of objects in a bag and try to find matching pairs. They will learn that while probability tells you that you have a better chance of getting something, it doesn't guarantee that you will get it.
Welcome to the world of MatterMania! I hope you enjoy my lesson plans for fun, interactive, and stimulating science classes. My lessons encourage the STEM fundamentals: becoming critical thinkers and effective problem solvers through real world examples and project based learning.
This lesson plan is appropriate for grades 3 – 6.
This lesson plan can be completed in 1 class period. The lesson is fully scripted, easy to use, and appropriate for teachers, homeschoolers, parents, and substitute teachers.
Included in this packet you will find:
A list of the items needed to run this lesson
The teacher script
Instructions for several class activities and demonstration
Student worksheet
