Students practice compare and contrast writing while exploring their ancestry, heritage, and family traditions in this engaging research project. Students conduct an oral history interview with someone from an older generation, then compare cultural traditions and experiences to discover what has stayed the same and what has changed over time.

This structured writing project includes interview questions, graphic organizers, and scaffolding to help students organize their ideas and write a clear compare-and-contrast essay.

Thanks for your feedback, Lina. I was a little surprised at how much my students enjoyed that, too. I wasn't expecting them to say so, but it ended up being one of their favorite projects of the year because of that.
