I used this primarily as a refresh/review activity with my sophomore students. Reading excerpt is manageable in length (2 pages), pleasing to the eye, succinct in it's overview of Rome, and lends itself well to annotation (space in the margins, 14-point (ish) font). Students are able to do this independently OR with the instructor. Touches on comprehension also. Quality pick-up!
