In each STEM lesson, students craft different projects to show how amazing animals use their different and distinct characteristics to survive in the world.
What If You Had Animal Teeth!? STEM Challenge:
In the story What If You Had Animal Teeth!? by Sandra Markle, we learn about a lot of different teeth and how they help each animal. From feet to fur to ears and eyes, all of these characteristics give animals advantages in their lives.
In this read aloud STEM challenge, students analyze different types of animal characteristics. They choose 5 traits to combine to create their own unique animal.
What If You Had Animal Eyes!? STEM Lesson:
In the story What If You Had Animal Eyes!? by Sandra Markle, students learn about different animals and how their eyes help them learn about their environment.
For this STEM challenge, students design and create a model that shows how animals receive different types of information through their senses. Then, they describe the ways that animals process the information and how they respond to the information in different ways.
This also includes a predator and prey activity where students use eye placement in animals to determine if they are predators or prey.
What If You Had Animal Feet!? Unplugged Coding Lesson:
In this STEM challenge, students get to step into the shoes—or paws—of animals by creating their own adventure in code! Using special coding cards, they’ll design a path filled with animals and directions.
Once they’ve finished their first adventure, they rearrange the coding cards to create a brand-new path and try again!
