Description

What physical traits do animal offspring inherit from their parents? How does a baby grow and change while becoming an adult? How can you design a model and explain how baby animals and their adults are the same and different?

By going through the Engineering Design Process, you’ll research about your favorite animal within one of the 6 animal classifications, and compare and contrast physical traits the babies and adults have. With this information, you’ll create a 3D printed model of the baby animal and their adult. Once printed, you’ll add more details to represent the physical features like color patterns and faces.

  • Device to design 3D print (tablet, laptop or desktop)
  • [One of these platforms] Doodle 3D Transform **preferred & free, Tinkercad, SketchUp, or any other 3D print software
  • 3D Printer (Optional; students can still create using 3D print software, but not have their final design printed. They can share their digital piece instead. In fact, students can complete this entire project and build their design using Makerspace materials.Don’t feel limited by this project if you don’t have a 3D printer.)
  • Epic! Books (Optional; research links are included in this resource. However, using Epic! as an additional research tool can be beneficial as well.)
