Description

Each of TeachKind’s Rescue Stories reading comprehension worksheets tells a different animal’s tale of transformation and features key vocabulary words and comprehension questions that encourage literal, inferential, and evaluative thinking. These stories were used in a first-of-its-kind study that found that students who read passages with compassion for animals as a central theme performed significantly better on Common Core–aligned questions than students who were given high-interest, non–animal protection texts.

This bundle is ideal for students in grades K–2 and includes rescue stories about Pickles the rabbit, Florence the cat, Herman the duckling, and Idabelle the cow.

With Groundhog Day less than a month away, we encourage you to download our All About Groundhogs Reading Comprehension Worksheet. As students explore the fascinating world of these unique animals, they'll strengthen their literacy skills and deepen their appreciation for respect and kindness toward all. This resource gently highlights the importance of valuing animals’ freedom and understanding why they should never be used as props or for entertainment.
