Animal Traits Matching Game (Amplify Science 3rd Grade Inherited Traits Unit)
Share

Description

Students can use this memory game to deepen their understanding of observable traits while having fun! Print and cut the cards out and mix them up. You may want to laminate them to make them more durable.

Have students place the cards face down and take turns to turning over two cards. If they match the picture of the animal with the card with its traits, then they keep the cards, otherwise they turn the cards face down again. The winner is the person with the most cards when all the cards have been taken.

Students can also play independently by matching the animals with their traits on their own.

There is an error in the game cards- there are three cards that say "4 legs, hard shell, dry scaly skin, black eyes" and there is no card with matching traits to describe the frog or the jaguar. my students got rather rowdy as they discovered this in the middle of the game

NGSS3-LS3-1
Analyze and interpret data to provide evidence that plants and animals have traits inherited from parents and that variation of these traits exists in a group of similar organisms. Patterns are the similarities and differences in traits shared between offspring and their parents, or among siblings. Emphasis is on organisms other than humans. Assessment does not include genetic mechanisms of inheritance and prediction of traits. Assessment is limited to non-human examples.
