Description
Are you looking for a great STEM challenge for the first month of school?
Can you create a platform using straws that can withstand the highest apple drop?
Apple Drop Challenge
Materials Needed: (per pair or team)
- straws (I usually give 20-30 straws per team)
- 2 pieces of cardboard (cut up your boxes)
- scissors and tape
- an apple
- tape measure
STEM Challenges are a way to get your kids thinking and building at the same time! These challenges use minimal materials and can be used as a way to improve your students’ communication and building skills in individual and team challenges. There are really fun, but challenging projects. The weight of the apple and the increasing heights of the drops make this one a tougher challenge than you think! We do this the first month of school and test the platforms one group at a time! It is always fun to bring a connection of unusual topics and STEM engineering challenges inside the classroom! The kids can learn a lot about engineering through these hands-on learning and experiences!
