Description

All of the following problems are written to be aligned with the TEKS for Area, Perimeter and Volume. These problems and sorting activity can be used from 3rd – 5th grades, increasing the expectations for how students solve the problem with each grade level. 3rd grade will do more sorting and explaining why the problems are perimeter, area, or volume to reinforce the concept knowledge. 4th grade can sort and begin to solve and 5th grade can sort, write the formula, and use the formula to solve.

There are 2 things included in this posting.
1) The first is 33 situations for student to sort into the three categories of perimeter, area, and volume. I like this activity because it allow students to determine what they are finding without numbers in the problems first. After they understand the differences in the concepts of area, perimeter, and volume, then they can move to the second section.
2) The second section is 27 problems written from those situations for students to sort and then practice solving. The students can practice writing the formula (if that is applicable for your grade level) and then they can solve.

I have used these problems in small group tutorials as well as whole group, just the idea of drawing a problem out and trying to solve it is more fun than a worksheet.

A great addition to my rotations. There is no additional prep time on my part, and it is engaging for my kids to use. Very happy with my purchase.
