Description

Problem solving in math can be tough for some students, but it's SO important to know how to do! This area and perimeter problem solving resource has 20 single and multi-step area and perimeter word problems, and it comes in FIVE formats. It includes four printable formats and one digital format that can be assigned in Google Classroom.

The five formats include:

  • Digital- 20 google slides with questions followed by the answer key to self-check. If you don't want your students to have access to the answer key, just delete those slides before assigning. You will also receive step-by-step instructions on how to add to your Google Drive and assign in Google Classroom.
  • Task cards- color and black and white version with a recording sheet and answer key
  • Full page format- one problem per page with a workspace
  • Strip format- 6 of the same problems on a page to cut out and have students glue into notebooks or composition books. This is a great format for saving paper and ink!
  • Worksheet format A- 4 problems on a page in boxes
  • Worksheet format B-- 4 problems on a page in a list

**Your download will be a zip file that includes all the above formats to open separately.

Some problems require knowledge of both area and perimeter to complete.

A few require knowledge of 2x2 digit multiplication.

These are great for problem solving with 4th-6th graders. These may be challenging for third graders, so they are great extension for third graders that need the extra challenge.

*Square units are written in various way such as “units square,” “sq units,” "square units" and “units2” (superscript on the 2 )

*These resources are not editable

Solve real world and mathematical problems involving perimeters of polygons, including finding the perimeter given the side lengths, finding an unknown side length, and exhibiting rectangles with the same perimeter and different areas or with the same area and different perimeters.
Apply the area and perimeter formulas for rectangles in real world and mathematical problems. For example, find the width of a rectangular room given the area of the flooring and the length, by viewing the area formula as a multiplication equation with an unknown factor.
Use variables to represent two quantities in a real-world problem that change in relationship to one another; write an equation to express one quantity, thought of as the dependent variable, in terms of the other quantity, thought of as the independent variable. Analyze the relationship between the dependent and independent variables using graphs and tables, and relate these to the equation. For example, in a problem involving motion at constant speed, list and graph ordered pairs of distances and times, and write the equation 𝘥 = 65𝘵 to represent the relationship between distance and time.
