These task cards are designed to align with 3rd Grade Common Core Standards (CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.MD.D.8).


Students will practice how to:

  • Find the perimeter of rectangles and polygons
  • Calculate area using multiplication or addition
  • Determine unknown side lengths when perimeter or area is known
  • Compare figures with the same area or perimeter
  • Solve real-world word problems involving area and perimeter


💡 HOW THE TASK CARDS ARE SET UP:

Each card focuses on one specific skill for easy differentiation and targeted review.

  • Cards 1–4: Find the perimeter of the given shape
  • Cards 5–8: Find the missing side when the total perimeter is provided
  • Cards 9–12: Find the area of the shape
  • Cards 13–16: Find the missing side when the total area is provided
  • Cards 17–20: Find the area of composite figures
  • Cards 21–24: Compare shapes with the same perimeter but different areas (or vice versa)
  • Cards 25–28: Solve area and perimeter word problems

As students complete these 28 cards, they’ll build fluency and confidence in geometry and measurement concepts.

Although this is a lower grade resource, I used this with my math 8 kids to teach composite figures. They often have a very hard time with this concept. Great resource!
