Description
This Articulation and Past Tense Task Card Bundle consist of 105 task cards to help older students (grades 4-6) practice speech sound production of R, L, TH, SH, CH, and J in various positions of words and regular and irregular past tense verbs in sentences and structured spontaneous responses. Use it with students who have articulation or mild to moderate language deficits during your speech therapy sessions or for homework.
DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO USE THIS ACTIVITY
On each card, students read a sentence loaded with 4-7 words, with a specific speech sound (see above), in all positions. Next, they answer a question about the sentence, with a complete response to practice structured spontaneous responses, to support carryover skills. For example, “Every Thursday, Timothy watched a cartoon about a toothless tiger.” “What did Timothy do?” Practicing out loud helps students hear their speech sound or past tense productions when spoken in context.
This resource can be printed out and used during drill work or with a commercially available game like Trouble, Sorry, etc. It can also be used as a pdf in a digital format (e.g., TPT EASEL) by annotating on it. Students can respond to questions by writing correct past tense verb forms in sentences.
It is aligned with the following common core state standards in grades 4-6:
• SL 4.4-SL–6.4
• L.4.1-L.6.1
