Description

This editable resource is a 4 day lesson plan on Earth's atmosphere that includes a 4 day lesson plan, video sheet, student project guide, and powerpoint/google slides. This lesson can be used along with the website The Habitable Planet found at this website here.

The lessons center around the students creating a project displaying the information they learn from independent or group research using a piktochart (more information on what a piktochart is and how to use it in the classroom found here). Everything is editable so project format can be swapped for a canva poster or infographic, google slides, google doc etc.

Resource includes:

1. A 15 question video sheet for the introductory video on the atmosphere. 28 minutes long and includes answer key. Video can be found here.

Video Question worksheet format:

  • Fill in the blank
  • Explanation
  • True/False

2. A 4 day lesson plan includes step by step instructions on implementing the piktochart project based on sections 2 through 9 of the atmosphere online textbook found here with contingency plans for diverse learners.

Lessons include:

  • Anticipatory sets (warm up/do now)
  • Discussion points
  • Clear and concise instructions
  • Group and individual expectations are spelled out
  • Exit tickets
  • Learning standard
  • Key vocabulary words found in ppt
  • List of materials needed- iPad, computer, headphones etc.
  • Step by step directions with teacher notes
  • Extended instructions for developing or advanced learners.

3. Student handout with step by step procedure on how to create the piktochart project either independently or with a small group.

Handout for project format:

  • Step by step instructions for students
  • Easy to access links
  • Pre-planning questions
  • 5 questions to be answered in the piktochart project

4. Powerpoint that includes 40+ slides with notes on the vocabulary and instructional steps for differentiated notes.

Powerpoint format:

  • Step by step instructional steps
  • Differentiated notetaking
  • Notes on vocabulary found in the lesson plan

5. Rubric for project

Topics include:

  • Atmosphere
  • Troposphere
  • Stratosphere
  • Mesosphere
  • Thermosphere
  • Climate
  • Weather
  • Solar energy
  • Global warming
  • Greenhouse gases

How can I utilize this resource in my classroom?

This product can be used as an extensive in-person or distance learning project or as an extended sub activity. Included is a Word and pdf version of each resource. These resources can be modified.
