Description

This resources focuses on atomic structure and the periodic table. The notes will help students learn concepts such as parts of an atom, ions, isotopes, columns, periods, and valence electrons while the task cards will help them reinforce their acquired knowledge through practice. Last, use the color-by-number in a variety of ways as a fun activity.

NOTES

Atomic Structure, Isotopes, and Ions Notes. The Atomic Structure section includes subatomic particles, location, charge, APEMAN, and practice. The Isotope section includes atomic number, mass number, & practice. The Ion section includes valence electrons, octet rule, cations, anions, formation of ions, and practice. Each section is divided by a title slide (Atomic Structure, Isotope, and Ion) and can be taught separately or together. Perfect for use with Physical Science, Honors Physical Science and Chemistry. The resource includes 35 teacher slides (answer key slides are included) along with 29 guided notes slides (with practice slides) for students.

Periodic Table Notes. Content includes information about columns (groups), periods (rows), metals, nonmetals, and metalloids. The notes also include specific information about each group on the periodic table such as physical and chemical properties, valence electron numbers, and oxidation numbers. Perfect for use with Physical Science and Chemistry. The resource includes 14 teacher slides and 14 guided notes slides for students.

NGSSHS-PS1-1
Use the periodic table as a model to predict the relative properties of elements based on the patterns of electrons in the outermost energy level of atoms. Examples of properties that could be predicted from patterns could include reactivity of metals, types of bonds formed, numbers of bonds formed, and reactions with oxygen. Assessment is limited to main group elements. Assessment does not include quantitative understanding of ionization energy beyond relative trends.
NGSSHS-PS1-2
Construct and revise an explanation for the outcome of a simple chemical reaction based on the outermost electron states of atoms, trends in the periodic table, and knowledge of the patterns of chemical properties. Examples of chemical reactions could include the reaction of sodium and chlorine, of carbon and oxygen, or of carbon and hydrogen. Assessment is limited to chemical reactions involving main group elements and combustion reactions.
