Description

This is a spiral review spelling program that I created to help my daughter master the spellings of words. She struggled to remember words, even words that she had memorized for a spelling test. When I realized she needed more practice for mastery, I created this program.

Over 300 students, many with dyslexia and other learning delays, have benefitted from this program.

It is 48 lessons that can be completed in one day or two days each. It also has 6 review lessons. There are 330 words plus many derivatives in this program. Each lesson comes with a QR code and a hyperlink for a YouTube video.

I really love this program! Last year I began Automatic Spelling with my 2nd grader. She was really hesitant to write very much at all because she did not know how to spell a lot of words. We started pretty slowly with the program and made it through three units last year. This year for third grade I wondered how much my daughter would remember over the whole summer. I was AMAZED that in our review test for the year she got nearly every word correct! This shows me that the slow repetition and review of the course really worked, and my daughter really did learn the words. I can see how this program has not only helped her spell the words we're going through, but helped her in spelling other words. Her confidence in writing has grown a lot. Some of this, of course, may be due to age and general growth, but I can see evidence of the program in many cases. I see her already knowing how to add suffixes to words we haven't gone over, and apply some of the same rules and principles to other words. She likes to watch the videos, she really loves the robots and especially loves it when he drops the e yo-yo for the drop the e rule. :) In the beginning she did think the grid was a lot of words, but now it's really no problem for her, and we are going through a lesson a week. Several times my daughter has stopped to tell me a spelling rule apart from the course as well :) We are grateful to have found Automatic Spelling, and I'm looking forward to using it with my younger children too!

I liked the overall theory of this resource but had a hard time understanding how to teach it. My kids liked the images on the pages.
