Autumn Rhythm Activity to Sing Move and Play Instruments

Description
The air is crisp, and the leaves are starting to change- the perfect to et into the autumn mood with this falling leaves rhythm activity. This resource gives you the perfect opportunity to engage the entire student while still practicing important rhythmic skills. Lesson plans are included for four different variations of the activity in order to meet the needs of the following learning objectives:
- Students will be able to read out loud rhythms including half note, quarter note, quarter rest, and paired eighth notes
- Students will be able to sing rhythms including half note, quarter note, quarter rest, and paired eighth notes
- Students will be able to clap rhythms including half note, quarter note, quarter rest, and paired eighth notes
- Students will be able to play rhythms including half note, quarter note, quarter rest, and paired eighth notes
The lesson involves students moving to music or a beat that you choose and provide. It could be as simple as you playing a drum, or you could choose recorded music to play for them. When the music stops, they will sing a song, find a new rhythm to work with, and get the chance to practice reading, singing, clapping, or playing the rhythms. This activity gives your students the chance to move their bodies while they practice their rhythms- something we all know they need to do every day!
You will receive a .pdf file that includes lesson plans for each objective, 4 variations on an original short (4 measure) tune to sing together, and 40 cards with unique rhythms comprised of half notes, quarter notes, quarter rests, and paired eighth notes. There is also a suggestion included for how to use this activity as an assessment to assess student learning.
If you like this activity, be sure to check out the Snowflake and Leprechaun versions as well!
